Staying relevant: why your website has to keep earning attention

Relevance is not something you own; you have to keep earning it. How to tell your website is losing relevance and how to keep it current without a big redesign.

Staying relevant: why your website has to keep earning attention

"Relevance is not a position you own." That is how Rostislav Rusev, co-founder and CEO of EFELLOWS, opens his piece in Digitalk 101. The idea is that no organization stays relevant forever. It has to earn relevance again and again.

The full text sits behind the publication's paywall, so we will not retell its arguments. The thought, however, applies perfectly to something we work with every day: websites.

Websites lose relevance too

A website that was excellent three years ago may be slow today, awkward on a phone and full of outdated information. Not because it was built badly, but because the environment has changed: new Google requirements, new devices, new customer expectations and new channels such as AI assistants.

Signs your website is losing relevance

  • Inquiries are falling while traffic stays the same or grows.
  • Your portfolio and services no longer reflect what you do today.
  • The mobile version is a compromise rather than the main view.
  • Google Search Console reports speed or indexing issues.
  • Competitors show up in AI assistant recommendations and you do not.

How to stay relevant

  1. Review your content regularly. At least once a quarter: are your services, prices and examples still current?
  2. Measure. Without data on inquiries, there is no way to know what works.
  3. Small improvements instead of a big redesign every five years. Cheaper and less risky.
  4. Real proof. Projects, an author, a process. This is also the foundation of trust in search.

If you are not sure whether you need a redesign or just improvements, we can review your website. Take a look at our services or send us an inquiry.
